PM Modi launches PN Panicker Reading Day on occasion of reading month celebration

On the occasion of the inauguration of reading month celebration in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that June 19 will be celebrated as PN Panicker Reading Day in the state of Kerala. PM Modi made the announcement at a gathering organized by the PN Panicker Foundation in Kerala.

During the address, the prime minister praised Kerala’s continued endeavour in the field of literacy, calling the state as a “torch-bearer and inspiration to the whole nation.” PM Modi also hailed Shri PN Panicker for being the driving spirit behind the library network in Kerala through the Kerala Grandhasala Sangham setup in 1945 with 47 rural libraries.

PM Modi acknowledged the PN Panicker Foundation for their work in promoting reading among the underprivileged, with the foundation working with government agencies and private sector companies to reach 300 million underprivileged people by 2022.

The prime minister’s address highlights the Modi government’s commitment to improve literacy levels in the country as it looks to support its development programs with a skilled labour force in the coming years.
