Senior Advocate KK Venugopal appointed as new Attorney General of India

Senior Advocate KK Venugopal has been appointed as the new Attorney General of India by replacing Mukul Rohatgi, according to the reports. The Prime Minister’s Office considered his name because of his seniority and knowledge in constitutional laws.

Law Minister considered KK Venugopal after taking into consideration several potential lawyers including senior lawyer Harish Salve and current Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar, according to the sources.

Venugopal (86) who practised law from 1960’s was informed and consulted about the position and was selected as soon as PM Narendra Modi came back from the tour of US.

Venugopal also held the position of Additional Solicitor General during Morarji Desai’s government. He has also appeared in several to notch cases including 2G scam and Babri Masjid demolition.
