As Virat Kohli receives the ‘Polly Umrigar award’ for the ‘Best International Cricketer’ for 2016/17, Virat Kohli thanked BCCI for hosting the award functions this year as his wife could attend the award function.
During his speech, Kohli said: “My wife is here today so makes it more special. The awards didn’t happen last year but I am glad they didn’t because she is here now.”

Kohli scored a total of 3,021 runs across all formats in 2016/17. In 2017/18, he managed 1351 runs in just 17 matches across all the three formats. In Women’s cricket, Harmanpreet Kaur is set to be honored with the award for 2016/17, whereas Smriti Mandhana will get for 2017/18.

The BCCI and Committee of Administrators (CoA) have congratulated all the individuals who will be awarded. CoA Chairman Vinod Rai said, “I congratulate all the winners of the BCCI Annual Awards. The last two years have been fabulous for Indian Cricket with both the men and women’s teams doing very well. We are proud of their achievements and this is our small way of acknowledging their on-field efforts.”
Member of CoA, Diana Edulji said, “This year we will be presenting awards for the past two seasons and it is going to be a big occasion ahead of the historic Test against Afghanistan. For the first time, an award category for the best International Cricketer (Woman) has been introduced and it is a step in the right direction.”

For BCCI, acting President CK Khanna said, “The BCCI Annual Awards is an occasion where former greats of the game, the present generation and the stars of tomorrow come under one roof. For BCCI, it is an opportunity to show its gratitude towards cricketers who enrich this game with their skills and hard work.”
