Thousands turn up at the Statue of Unity days after its inauguration

The Statue of Unity has attracted people from all walks of life. On Saturday, over 28,000 people visited the Sardar Patel Memorial, the highest since the Sardar Patel memorial was inaugurated.

Narmada district Collector R S Ninama, while confirming that 27,000 tourists visited on Saturday, said the administration was expecting the figure to go further up.

He told PTI that the high number of tourists was because of the Diwali vacations and the Gujarati New Year holiday.

A total of as 28,409 tourists, the highest so far, visited the statue on Saturday, making the single day collection of Rs 48.44 lakh. The statue has made a total collection of Rs 1.26 crore within three days since Thursday.

While the officials had pegged the expected number of visitors at 15,000 for the weekend on account of Diwali, Hindu New Year and Bhai Dooj, the number increased to 17,280 on Thursday itself. On Friday, the number increased to around 23,000.
