Farmer in MP gets Rs. 13 instead of Rs. 24,000 as loan waiver

Shivlal Kataria, a farmer in Madhya Pradesh got a major shock when he found Rs. 13 marked against his name on the list of farm loan waiver beneficiaries instead of Rs. 24,000. The list was put out by the authorities on January 23.

Shivlal said that the state government has made a promise to waive off loans up to Rs. 2 lakhs and when the forms were filled, he expected a complete waiver of his loan of Rs. 23,815. However, in the list sent to the Panchayat, only Rs. 13 have been waived off.

The farmer resides in Nipania Baijnath village in the Agar Malwa district in Indore. He further said that he was excited about the promise made by the Congress party for the loan waiver and he was happy about them coming to power hoping to get some relief from the previously elected government.

When the government was questioned about this, the officials said that the flaws are rising because of the irregularities at the loan disbursal stage.

Omkar Singh Markam, the Cabinet Minister said that the irregularities which occurred at the loan disbursal stage are now cropping up and required action is being taken to tackle them.

The Congress leader and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath announced the loan waiver scheme for the farmers during his oath taking ceremony on the day he took charge.

The application process of the scheme began on January 15 and the last date for applying is February 5. The money will start reaching the farmers’ accounts directly from February 22.

The aim of the scheme is provide to relief to approximately 55 lakh farmers and an expenditure of Rs. 50,000 crore would be required for this scheme to function smoothly.
