Weekend Movie Review

Date:

Rejoice movie buffs!! The weekend is full of action as two powerpack Holly-Bolly release is in theatres near you. Commando 2 and Logan are two promising action flicks showcasing this week.

LOGAN

Hugh Jackman’s final outing as Wolverine is violent, heartfelt, and absolutely worth seeing. Wolverine film changes the face of superhero movies forever. It’s the farewell he deserved.

Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold were not going to play by the rules anymore. For Jackman, it was his ninth time playing Wolverine, and for Mangold, another shot to perfect what he almost achieved in 2013, when he sent Logan to Japan.

Logan is unlike any superhero film that you have seen. Like that Cash song, it is meditative, melancholy, and has nothing to lose anymore. We’ve seen him go through hell, watch everyone he loves die, and all he can do is keep living. Keep fighting for unknown reasons.

It’s a simple premise played out against a thoughtful and considered backdrop, with a number of ideas to be teased out and pondered. It’s also a very good, very violent action movie, with a sense of stakes that modern blockbusters rarely have. On top of that, Logan is a truly standalone film, one that requires absolutely no knowledge or familiarity of any prior films about either Wolverine or the X-Men. In Logan, those characters are all merely stories that are now exaggerated in comic books, or memories that those who were there refuse to speak about. All that matters here is the present, and for this man called Logan, it’s not a particularly pleasant one.
It’s a bleak film, but purposefully so, elegiac in its dystopian brutality.
COMMANDO 2 The Black Money Trail

Commando 2 is the action trail on black money and directed by Deven Bhojani. The movies leads are  Vidyut Jammwal, Adah Sharma, Freddy Daruwala, Esha Gupta. The film is called Commando 2: The Black Money Trail and Vidyut is out to obliterate black money.

Actor Vidyut Jammwal calls himself the best action hero of his generation and Commando franchise is his most famous outing. Can Commando 2 repeat the success he tasted with Commando? He reprises the role of Captain Karanvir Singh — the saviour of the underprivileged. His mission this time is to break a money laundering ring and make India black money-free. Mostly, that should involve intricate backroom play and following the money. The film is high on action and Vidyut is in form.

That is so far, so good. But what happens when the action stops and dialogues fill the space? Mostly boredom, sometimes cringe-inducing dialogues. There are also the two leading ladies of Commando 2 — Adah Sharma and Esha Gupta and they sound bizarre, to say the least.

There is just Vidyut present in the screen honestly. If the filmmakers want to turn Commando into a franchise along the lines of what we see in Hollywood, they need characters that stay with you and dialogues that don’t fade away.

So guys grab your packet of popcorn and rush to the cinemas near you.
