A man stabbed Karnataka Lokayukta P Vishwanath Shetty in his Bengaluru office. Now the accused is identified as Tejas Sharma and has been questioned by the police.
Karnataka home minister Ramalinga Reddy said that Shetty is now out of danger and the accused has been arrested.
A police officer claims that Shetty has been admitted to the nearby Mallya Hospital. A former Karnataka high court judge, Shetty took over as the anti-corruption ombudsman in January 2017.
His appointment became a controversy as some activists alleged that he is corrupt and said his family had amassed a large number of properties.
The governor also approved after seeking clarifications from the government about Shetty who was the unanimous choice of the selection panel.
The southern state had remained without a Lokayukta following the unceremonious exit of justice Y Bhaskar Rao (retired) in December 2015. His tenure was marred by allegations of corruption and extortion.
