Singur judgment to have national impact: Bengal Inc

Kolkata, Aug 31 (PTI) Several industrialists have saidthat today’s Supreme Court verdict on Singur land acquisitionwould have a national impact. The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industries said: "Thislandmark judgement will have an impact on the whole country.The West Bengal government has triggered an issue which has anational impact. "The long-term impact on industrialisation will have to beassessed. Any industrial activity must be in sync with thelaws of the land. The judgement gives a direction," it said. MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry president ManishGoenka hailed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her defenceof the rights of poor farmers. "At the same time the state is in need of investment andwe hope that the government of West Bengal will devise a wayto attract investment in Singur," he said. MCC, he said, is pleased with the Supreme Court verdicttoday which set aside the land acquisition by West Bengalgovernment in 2006 asking it to take possession of the landand distribute it to the original land owners within 12 weeks.PTI BSM KKABK
