Doctors from top hospitals with fake degrees arrested in West Bengal

West Bengal: The field of medicine has been churning out numerous fakes in the state of West Bengal. Six fake doctors have been arrested in the state only within the last one month. Additionally, a seventh person was arrested for selling fake MBBS certificates. It has been reported that large quantities of fake medicines too have been seized in Hooghly district.

The the most recent arrest, “Dr.” Ram Shankar Singh from Howrah district,seemed like an  expert due to the long string of qualifications after his name – MBBS Biochem, MD, DIAAMS, DMALT . These however, were not issued by the real medical council. He was arrested on Monday. Another man, a mere B.Com pass, Ajay Tewari, posed to be a gastroenterologist for 20 years at the well known Kothari Medical Centre in Kolkata’s Alipore, was arrested on friday. Barasat’s Ramesh Chandra Baidya was not a fake doctor, but helped people pose as one- he sold fake certificates, 560 in recent times, for lakhs of rupees. His fees varied with the client’s profile. For an extra Rs. 10,000, he could even furnish you with ‘gold medalist’ certificate.

estioning the hospital authorities and is looking into how these frauds went undetected for so long. Chief of the West Bengal Medical Council who also represents West Bengal in the Medical Council of India said that a possible explaination was the fact that these They are all socially well connected.  according t the fake gastroenterologist  Ajay Tewari knew many police officers and bureaucrats. The CID began probing the entire fake doctor case,  After recieving a go ahead from Mamata Banerjee ,three months after complaints reached the West Bengal Medical Council and the government.
