Mumbai: The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention over the safety of Bollywood stars and their families following a series of shootings, attacks and alleged extortion threats involving film personalities.
In a letter dated November 3, AICWA president Suresh Shyam Lal Gupta raised concerns over Amitabh Bachchan’s November 1 Sunday appearance at Jalsa, where the 84-year-old actor greeted fans from behind protective glass, with son Abhishek Bachchan by his side.
Bollywood behind bulletproof glass: Amitabh Bachchan forced to meet fans from behind bulletproof glass. After the murder of Baba Siddique and attacks on Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Rohit Shetty, Kapil Sharma and Tiger Shroff, who is next?
All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta has written to Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, respectfully demanding:
🔹 Foolproof security for film personalities and their families 🔹 A complete crackdown on gangster and extortion networks, with NIA investigation 🔹 Fast-track trials and strict punishment for the guilty 🔹 Restoration of law and order in Mumbai
Mumbai must never go back to the underworld days of the 1990s. Bollywood must never work in the shadow of fear.

“For more than four decades he has met his fans there every Sunday, and people from across India and abroad come just to see him. At the age of 84, he never imagined he would have to protect himself like this in his own city,” the letter stated.
The association described the sight as a troubling moment for the film industry, adding that the incident had shaken Bollywood.
AICWA cited several incidents, including the murder of politician Baba Siddique in Bandra, firing outside Salman Khan’s residence, the knife attack on Saif Ali Khan at his home and firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence.
It also mentioned repeated firing incidents targeting comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada and a recent shooting involving Tiger Shroff in Juhu.
“Tiger Shroff was fired upon in Juhu, one of Mumbai’s most prominent VIP areas, in the presence of a large crowd. Two persons were hit by bullets,” the letter stated, alleging that the incident was intended to spread terror.
The association linked the incidents to alleged extortion attempts, also referring to reports of an alleged Rs 5 crore demand involving Tusshar Kapoor.
AICWA questioned Mumbai’s law-and-order situation, arguing that if celebrities were unsafe in prominent areas, ordinary residents would also have reason to worry.
The letter noted that Salman Khan had installed bulletproof glass at his residence, while Akshay Kumar and other personalities had reportedly adopted similar precautions.
AICWA urged the Prime Minister to ensure immediate protection for film personalities and their families and direct central agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), to investigate alleged gang networks, their handlers, financiers and possible interstate and international links.
