Squid Game Star O Yeong-Su Convicted of Sexual Misconduct, Plans To Appeal Verdict

Date:

O Yeong-Su, renowned for his role in the hit series ‘Squid Game’, has been found guilty of sexual misconduct for allegedly hugging and kissing a woman against her wishes.

The Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court handed down a sentence of up to eight months in prison and suspended for 2 years, as reported by Deadline, citing Korean sources. The 79-year-old actor faced charges in 2022 stemming from a 2017 incident when he hugged and kissed a woman without consent, But he denied the charges.

Following the court’s decision, O Yeong-Su expressed plans to appeal the verdict, which also mandates his participation in a 40-hour sexual offender treatment program. He previously explained that he had merely held the woman’s hand to assist her around a lake, and while he apologized, he asserts it was not an admission of guilt.

Despite decades in showbiz, it was his portrayal in Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ that drew him to international fame. The series, depicting a grim world where disadvantaged individuals are compelled to engage in lethal renditions of childhood games, received widespread acclaim.
