Now you can drive from India to Thailand

Date:

Now you can pack your bag to head for those scenic tourist spots and take a 3000 km road journey to Thailand from India’s North East, through a four laned highway passing through Myanmar. Sure you will need to take a visa from Myanmar.

The India-Myanmar-Thailand (IMT) trilateral highway, which entails linking India to Myanmar and then further to Southeast Asia is now operational.

It was a strategic project that Prime Minister Narendra Modi took up as priority.

The trilateral highway can drastically enhance the connectivity between the Mekong sub-region and India and prove to be a game-changer for India’s northeast region which is an important component in the government’s plans to ramp up its “Look East” policy to the newly coined “Act East” policy.

The Asian highway runs from Moreh in India to Thailand’s Maesot via Myanmar’s Tamu, Mandalay and Myawaddy.

If you did decide to take the roadtrip, it would take 14 days to cover the 4,500 km drive.
