Manipur falls within the seismic zone labeled as “very high risk” based on India’s seismic zone map. Just last month, on November 5, Churachandpur in Manipur experienced a 3.1 magnitude earthquake.
The area often experiences occasional tremors due to its geological structure and geographical location.
In September, a more powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 struck around 60 kilometers away from Ukhrul.
