Former councillor’s murder: 2 held in Maharashtra

Yavatmal (Maha), Aug 28 (PTI) Two persons, including acouncillor, were today arrested in connection with the murderof former councillor Pravin Diwate, police said. "Banti Jaiswal, a nominated member of YavatmalMunicipal Council and one Sheikh Javed were apprehended todayin connection with Diwate’s murder," police inspector N M Pantsaid. A case under relevant sections of IPC and the Arms Actwas registered after Diwate’s killing yesterday. "Investigation in the matter and efforts to nab theother accused are on," said Pant. Yesterday, six unidentified assailants murdered Diwateat his office here. The assailants first threw chili powder at Diwate’sface, against whom several criminal cases had been registered,and then shot him and also attacked him with swords anddaggers at his office on Waghapur road at around 9 am, policehad said.
