Former Income Tax temporary worker arrested for acid attack

Chennai, Aug 25 (PTI) A former temporary employee of theIncome Tax department was arrested here today for allegedlyattacking another worker with acid two days ago. A special team arrested G Prabu (30) for attacking MohitPathak with acid, police said in a release. Citing an enquiry, police said Prabu was employed in theI-T department on temporarily basis as a data entry operator afew months ago and was in love with a woman colleague. However, he had later quit the job and joined work in anelectrical shop. The woman had ‘ignored’ Prabu and was in love with Pathakwhich infuriated him, police said. Prabu subsequently attacked Pathak with acid with the helpof a friend, police said, adding, a search was on to nab theabsconding accomplice of the accused. Prabu was produced in a court and later lodged in prison. Pathak had been admitted to a private hospital here with40 per cent burns suffered in the attack at his apartment inCentral Revenue Quarters at Anna Nagar. Pathak, a BSc graduate and hailing from Gwalior in MadhyaPradesh, is a hockey player. He has been working in Income Tax office here for the pastone year. PTI SA APRSMJMAV
