PM infatuated with his own publicity: Ajit Singh

Lucknow, Aug 29 (PTI) Accusing Prime Minister NarendraModi of being infatuated with his own publicity, RLD chiefAjit Singh today said he often gives "contradictory figures"in his statement without "knowing the facts". "During his rally in Saharanpur, Modi said that onlyRs 700 crore cane dues of farmers were pending but the newssaid that it was actually Rs 5,000 crore," he told reportershere. Singh alleged that Modi does not have any idea aboutfigures and questioned how will he ensure welfare of farmers. "Modi in his Independence Day speech said that 99 percent of the farmers dues have been paid. He only likespublicity. His poll promises have turned into gimmicks," hesaid. The RLD chief said corruption, hooliganism and crimewere at its peak in Uttar Pradesh, a fact, he claimed, hadbeen accepted by SP Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, ChiefMinister Akhilesh Yadav and cabinet minister Shivpal SinghYadav. "The question is, who is responsible for thesituation? In reality no one intends to improve the it," hesaid. The former Union Minister alleged that floods occurred inthe state due to corruption as funds allocated for maintenanceof check dams were "embezzled" by the persons concerned. PTIAVA AQSAQS
