New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a private dinner for US President Joe Biden on Friday at his residence in Delhi, a day before the mega G20 summit.
President Biden, who left for India earlier today, has reached Prime Minister Modi’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.
The two leaders will have dinner together after bilateral talks.
President Biden’s inaugural visit to India comes three months after Prime Minister Modi’s State visit to the United States, during which the President hosted a dinner for Modi at the White House. President Biden is scheduled to depart for Vietnam on Sunday afternoon.
During their upcoming bilateral discussions, PM Modi and President Biden are poised to achieve significant progress on matters such as the GE jet engine deal and civil nuclear technology, as reported by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. In April this year, GE initiated the transfer of technology to India for the domestic production of jet engines.
Furthermore, the two leaders are expected to conduct a thorough review of their ongoing collaboration across various domains, encompassing clean energy, trade, high-technology, defence, and exploring ways for both nations to contribute to addressing some of the world’s urgent challenges, as stated by US officials.
Before departing for India, President Biden posted on X: “I’m headed to the G20 — the premier forum for international economic cooperation — focused on making progress on Americans’ priorities, delivering for developing nations, and showing our commitment to the G20 as a forum that can deliver.”
It’s worth noting that the last US President to visit India was Donald Trump in 2020. This evening, PM Modi held bilateral talks with leaders from Mauritius and Bangladesh at his residence.
During the closing day of the G20 summit, Prime Minister Modi has plans for a working lunch with French President Emmanuel Macron. Additionally, he will have an informal meeting with Canada and engage in bilateral talks with leaders from Comoros, Türkiye, the UAE, South Korea, the EU/EC, Brazil, and Nigeria, as per ANI sources.
