New Delhi, Aug 26 (PTI) Water level in 91 majorreservoirs in the country has increased to 65 per cent oftheir total capacity from 61 per cent last week, thegovernment said today. According to Water Resources Ministry, 102.147 billioncubic metre (BCM) of water was available in these reservoirsfor the week ending on August 24. The stock is in excess of levels reported duringcorresponding period last year by 12 per cent. It is also 102per cent of the average of storage in last 10 years. The total capacity of these reservoirs is 157.799 BCM. Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Tripura, Uttarakhand,Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu havereported lower levels of water in major reservoirs compared tolast year. Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra, Gujarat, WestBengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Karnatakahave reported better storage vis-a-vis last year. The estimated water storage capacity of all reservoirs inthe country is 253.388 BCM. Thirty-seven of the majorreservoirs have hydropower benefit with installed capacity ofmore than 60 MW.
