The water crisis in India has taken an ugly turn as many cities and states in India are suffering from the agony of not having pure drinkable water. As it is said ‘Jal Hi Jeevan Hai’, people are deprived of their basic rights! There are three basic necessities in a person’s life- adequate food, pure water and housing, but when people are deprived of their basic rights then how can the government expect them to lead a proper life?
1. Ajmer (Rajasthan) – Water crisis in Ajmer has lead to a great mess as people are forced to lock their water drums so that nobody else can take water from them and with the temperature shooting to 45 degree Celsius, the intensity of the situation has got even worse. The only source of water for them is the government water tanks but as residents claim that the government water tanks are also not coming. A similar situation happened in Bhilwara where locals were also seen locking their water drums.
2. Dindori (Madhya Pradesh) – The people of the Dindori district are facing an acute water problem, left with no options, the children of the village have to climb down the well to fetch the water as other water bodies in this heat have dried up.
3. Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu) – As Tamil Nadu also started facing water shortage, being the coastal region, the people of Rameswaram are forced to dig up sandy terrain to procure drinking water. Approximately 650 fisherman families dealt with this acute water shortage problems for 30 years.
4. Dantewara (Chattisgarh) – The acute water problem led to people drinking contaminated water every day. People are compelled to take out water from the drain and drink it every day.
5. Amritsar (Punjab) – A locality in Amritsar’s, Indira Colony, despite raising the issue of water has not got any proper response from the ministers and they are waiting for over the past 10-15 for proper electricity and water. “Our children have to study in the dark. We cannot even use fans or coolers in this scorching heat. We have raised this issue several times,” said a resident of the colony.
6. Damoh (Madhya Pradesh) – Due to the water scarcity problem in this small village of Madhya Pradesh, girls have to walk at least 4 kilometres daily to use the toilet. “My friends and I along with our teacher walks two kilometers every day to use the toilet, due to the water crisis in the area,” a student said.
The water problem is really at the alarming rate, so now the government should wake up and smell the coffee before it is too late!
