A screenshot attributed to India Today claiming to show the expected number of seats parties are winning in Uttar Pradesh is doing the rounds on social media. Many users expect the Samajwadi Party will win at least 30 seats in the state.
A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption:
लोकसभा चुनाव इंडिया टुडे ने उत्तर प्रदेश के अपने सर्वे में
~ सपा को 17 सीट दी है
~ कांग्रेस को 5 सीट दी है
~बसपा भी 3 सीट पा रही है
~एक अन्य निर्दल भी टक्कर में है कोई
बस देखते जाओ ये तो बस शुरुआत है, सपा 30+ अकेले जीतेगी ।

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the viral screenshot, the NM team traced a YouTube video on the official channel of India Today, dated March 20, 2024. At 1:35:50, we can see the the same card for the predictions for Uttar Pradesh in the 2024 elections, the only difference is the numbers shown against each party.
Here we can clearly see that the number of expected seats for the BJP has increased to 70 and the number of seats for SP is 7 and not 17. All the other numbers are also different in the viral screenshot proving that it has been edited to spread misinformation.
The same news presenters also discussed the predictions for the seat share in Uttar Pradesh in February 2024 as well, even then there was no mention of any seats for SP and the seats predicted for BJP were even higher at 72. This proves that the data mentioned in the viral screenshot is fake.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show that India Today predicted a decrease in seats for BJP in UP in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, is false.
