FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

With a keyword search, the NM team spotted a Twitter post by the Pratapgarh police on May 20, 2024, clarifying that the incident occurred in Ramma Ka Purwa village under the jurisdiction of Manikpur police station in Pratapgarh district. The dispute arose between two parties after a tree branch fell on an electricity pole, disrupting the power supply.

Additionally, Sanjay Rai, Additional Superintendent of Police (West), Pratapgarh, provided further details in another tweet about the incident. He stated, “On May 18, a contractor named Arvind Patel and Ram Naresh agreed at Thana Manikpur to cut three trees. While cutting, a fig tree fell on the nearby pole wire, disrupting the power supply. The pole, situated near Uday Prakash Shukla’s house, was damaged. Contractor Arvind contacted Ramdhin Sonkar, the wood-cutting machine operator, and they agreed to repair the wire and pole by paying the lineman ₹10,000. After this agreement, both parties left. On May 20, Uday Prakash Shukla went to Ramdhin Sonkar’s house, leading to a renewed altercation and fight over the same issue. Both parties were taken to the police station, and appropriate action is being taken. The rumour that people are being prevented from voting is false.”

A news report from Hindustan Live quotes Inspector Jaichand Bharti explaining: “The incident on May 18 involved a fig tree breaking an electric pole. There is no connection to elections; this narrative is falsely spread. We are investigating and will submit a report to the authorities.”

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral claim is fake.
