A video is widely shared on social media, claiming that a huge crowd of Muslims offering prayers on a road in Paris recently.
The video is shared on Facebook with a Hindi caption: यह पेरिस में शुक्रवार है देखो और रोओ। यह कल भारत की तस्वीर है अगर तुम नहीं जागे (English translation: It’s Friday in Paris…Look and cry. This will be India’s picture tomorrow, if you don’t wake up.)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.
Using the InVid Tool, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and performed a Reverse Image Search. This search directed us to a Twitter post carrying a similar image, dated October 15, 2013. According to the post, the photo was of the Eid celebrations in Moscow.
When we compared the viral image with the Twitter post, we realised that the location of both images is same.
A much better picture, uploaded on a Russian website, says: “Have Muslims conquered Europe?” in 2015. We also noticed “495” written as an area code number in one of the advertisements. Taking a cue from this, we searched and found that 495, 498, and 499 are three area codes of Moscow, Russia.
On Google Maps, we found Moscow Catherdral, which is very similar to the mosque seen in the viral video. The same image had been uploaded on Alamy, stating that it is, indeed, Moscow Cathedral Mosque.
Another news article has also carried similar images of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque. According to various news reports, the French government had banned public prayers on the streets since 2011.
Thus, it is now clear that an old video from Russia is falsely shared as Muslims offering prayers on the streets of Paris.
