Fact Check: Unrelated Video Falsely Shared As Election Commissioner’s Car Surrounded In Bihar

Date:

After the NDA’s sweeping win in the Bihar Assembly elections, several opposition figures accused the Election Commission of “stealing votes”. Amid this charged atmosphere, a video has begun circulating online showing a large crowd gathering around a car. The social media users claimed that Bihar residents had blocked Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s vehicle in protest over alleged vote rigging. One such post features the caption: “Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar should not run away… Jai Janata, Jai Bihar,” suggesting widespread public outrage.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.

Observing the video closely, NewsMobile identified a Facebook post from September 13, 2025, featuring three similar videos. As per its description, the footage showed Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, along with RJD MLAs Avadh Bihari Chowdhury and Harishankar Yadav, visiting the families of two deceased individuals — Lali Yadav and Munna Yadav — to offer condolences and demand action against the perpetrators.

Further verification came from the official Instagram account of Avadh Bihari Chowdhury, who posted a video on September 12 containing an identical clip. The caption praised Tejashwi Yadav’s continued support for the people, with hashtags indicating that the event took place in Siwan, Bihar. A side-by-side comparison confirmed that the viral video and the Instagram clip were recorded at the same time and location, proving the footage predates the Bihar election results.

A keyword search for “Siwan” leads to a report by Live 10 Bharat. The report includes footage from another camera angle that matched the viral video. It clarifies that on September 8, a man named Dinesh Kumar Yadav, also known as Lali Yadav, was murdered in Chainpur village, Siwan district. On September 12, Tejashwi Yadav visited the victim’s family to demand strict action and offer support, an event that drew a large gathering of locals. This confirms the crowd seen in the viral video had gathered for Tejashwi Yadav’s condolence visit, not to protest against the Election Commissioner.

Thus, we can conclusively say that the viral video has no link to vote-rigging allegations or the Election Commissioner.
