Fact Check: Video Showing Azaan At Lancaster House Viral With False Claims

Date:

A video claiming to show Azaan (an Islamic call to prayer) being held in the United Kingdom’s Buckingham Palace recently is doing the rounds on social media. Many users have flayed the royal family for the prayer in their home and making a mockery of British values.

A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption:
Islamic call to prayer in London’s Buckingham Palace, official residence of UK King Charles III;
But please. Still continue to believe that the Royal family cares about British values. Wake up.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.

Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team traced a report in The Express Tribune — a Pakistani media organisation, dated March 29, 2023. According to the article, an iftar dinner was organised at 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the Prime Minister of Great Britain, as well as at Lancaster House — the British Foreign Office. The man in the picture matches with one one of the visuals.

Also, prominent Muslim leaders of the country had been invited and special arrangements made for Azaan at the residence.

Searching further, we came across an Instagram video by singer Mikheael Mala, who is performing the Azaan in the viral video, dated March 29, 2023. This video matches exactly with the viral clip with a description that it was shot at the Lancaster House, NOT at the Buckingham Palace.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming that Azaan was organised at Buckingham Palace recently, is false.
