Fact Check: Viral Post of Ronaldo Eating Food from Al Baik After Joining Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia Is Fake

Date:

Cristiano Ronaldo recently signed a two-year contract with the Saudi Arabian Pro League club Al Nassr, after mutually terminating his contract with Manchester United. The news surprised many football fans as this would be Ronaldo’s first stint with a non-European club.

Against this backdrop, a viral selfie of Ronaldo with food from Al Baik a Saudi fast-food chain, on the table is doing the rounds on social media. Many users claim that the food is from Al Baik restaurant after landing in Saudi.

A Facebook user posted the viral picture with a caption: Welcome habibi Cristiano Ronaldo to Saudi Riyadh,
Yummy Eat AL BAIK

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral picture and found it to be false.

Running a Reverse Image Search of the viral picture, we found an article published in The Sun a British tabloid, dated September 28, 2020, and titled: SPRING CHICKEN The fitness secrets that help Cristiano Ronaldo leap 8ft 5ins and mean even at 36 the Man Utd star is in peak condition

The article gives insights into Ronaldo’s fitness and diet routines that keep him fit and at the peak of his abilities. One of the pictures in the article matches the viral image except for the box and food from Al Baik. The difference between the two pictures is clearly visible.

Scanning through Ronaldo’s Instagram handle, we identified his post from September 23, 2016.

Here too, we can see that food and box from Al Baik are missing from the original image, confirming that the viral picture is edited.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral picture’s claim over Ronaldo’s Al Baik food is fake.
