Boxing India still out of the ring

Date:

New Delhi: The chairman of the AIBA ad-hoc committee Kishan Narsi has reiterated in an e-mail communication that Boxing India (BI) stands provisionally suspended after the derecognized national body in a notification had scheduled its Annual General Meeting in Guwahati on October 3.

With Narsi’s e-mail repeating the old stand of AIBA, it effectively means that the BI AGM and the subsequent various national championships organized by the federation would be deemed invalid.

Cliodhna of the AIBA legal cell mailed Narsi enquiring about whether Meren Paul and others could hold AGM and national competitions when the body (BI) is provisionally suspended.

Narsi’s mailed response which was received on Monday stated: “This is to inform all the stakeholders of Indian Boxing fraternity that AIBA has provisionally suspended Boxing India and it has instructed AdHoc Committee to handle issues related to calling a meeting of all the stakeholders ahead including of holding fresh elections to streamline stalled Indian Boxing operations asap.

“In this regard, please be informed that AIBA AdHoc Committee plans to meet in next two weeks or so and will intimate the Indian Boxing family of the way forward on the lines suggested and recommended by AIBA for the further handling of governing body operations.”

The Indian boxers have recently done well at the Asian Championship in Bangkok but they all fought under the AIBA flag. That will also be the case as they gear up for the World Championship in Doha.
