Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe reached another significant milestone in his career after becoming the joint-second-fastest player to register 100 goal contributions in the UEFA Champions League during his side’s 3-2 victory over AEK Athens.
The French international achieved the landmark with his 78th-minute equaliser, taking his tally to 74 goals and 26 assists in 102 appearances in Europe’s premier club competition.
According to Opta statistics, Mbappe shares the second position with former Bayern Munich and Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, who also reached 100 goal contributions in 102 matches. Lionel Messi remains at the top, having achieved the feat in 101 appearances. Cristiano Ronaldo leads the all-time charts with 182 contributions, comprising 140 goals and 42 assists.
The milestone came during a dramatic encounter in Athens, where Real Madrid recovered from two deficits to secure all three points.
AEK Athens took an early lead through Aboubakary Koita in the 12th minute, with Luka Jovic providing the assist. Real Madrid responded through Jude Bellingham, who brought the visitors level in the 32nd minute with an inventive backheel finish.
The hosts regained the advantage in the 75th minute when Koita turned provider, setting up Stavro Pilo to make it 2-1.
However, Madrid’s response was immediate. Three minutes later, Mbappe converted a low cross from Denzel Dumfries to restore parity and register his 100th Champions League goal contribution.
With the contest heading towards a draw, Federico Valverde produced a decisive late strike to complete Madrid’s comeback and seal a 3-2 win.
The goal also extended Mbappe’s scoring run in the Champions League to six consecutive matches, underlining his importance to the Spanish side’s European campaign.
At 27, the France captain continues to add to his impressive record in the competition, placing himself alongside some of the most prolific players in Champions League history.
