The NM team began verification by extracting keyframes from the viral video and running a reverse image search. During the investigation, we noticed an Instagram watermark bearing the handle ‘@esreviral’ in the footage. We also spotted a man wearing an Argentina football team jersey, raising questions about the video’s claimed connection to Bihar.
Taking the investigation forward, we searched for the Instagram handle and found the original video uploaded on December 20, 2022. The caption said over 3.5 million people gathered along the 25 de Mayo Highway in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to welcome the country’s World Cup-winning football team.

Further verification led us to a video published on ESPN FC’s official YouTube channel on December 20, 2022, featuring similar visuals of the massive gathering. The footage showed millions of Argentine football fans celebrating their team’s victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
We also found multiple media reports by Euronews, CBS News and Business Insider documenting the unprecedented celebrations across Buenos Aires on December 20, 2022. Reports stated that the turnout was so overwhelming that the team’s open-top bus parade had to be discontinued, with players eventually being airlifted due to security concerns.
