SA bowlers send back Vijay, Dhawan and Kohli to end day 1 on top

Date:

All the pre-match build up of the India vs South Africa clash was about how would the Indian batsmen adjust themselves to the South African condition and that was exactly what happened. However that happened with the home side as well.

After bundling out the hosts for 286, it was the turn of Indian batsmen to take home the advantage on the first day of the first Test between India and South Africa in Cape Town. But on a day when 13 wickets fell, South Africa took a slight edge by picking up the wickets of Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli.

After some sensational bowling stuff, India lost three wickets to finish the day at 28/3. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara were on the crease after scoring 0 and 5 runs respectively.

Morne Morel, Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander picked up a wicket each.

Shikhar Dhawan started well but was surprised with a short ball by Steyn and pulled it straight in the year and the bowler completed the catch to send back the opener for 16. India had already lost Murali Vijay for just 1 by then. Virat Kohli was the next one to depart. Morne Morkel accounted for the Indian skipper’s dismissal after Kohli had scored just 5.

Earlier, AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis scored half centuries each while middle order and tail made some useful contribution as the Proteas overcame a sensational first spell from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who picked up 4 wickets, to score 286 runs.
