Court stays non-bailable warrant issued against Kejriwal, Sisodia, Yadav in 2013 defamation case

Date:

A Rouse Avenue court on Wednesday put a stay on the non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and national president of Swaraj India Yogendra Yadav.

Earlier on Tuesday, the court issued the NBW after all the trio failed to appear before the court in a 2013 defamation case filed by advocate Surendra Kumar Sharma.

Subsequently, the court was appraised by Kejriwal’s lawyer that permanent exemption had already been allowed for him and his deputy.

According to the defamation complaint, Sharma was initially promised a ticket during the 2013 assembly elections but was later denied one.

Sharma said the three men made defamatory, unlawful and derogatory comments, which were carried by leading newspapers.

The court has set April 29 as the next date of hearing.
