IPL 2023: Bhanuka, Arshdeep Shine As PBKS Beat KKR By 7 Runs (DLS Method)

Date:

Mohali: Rain spoils the play as Punjab Kings won the opening encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders by seven runs through D/L Method.

Rain stopped the play after KKR lost seven wickets while chasing a total of 192 runs in the second innings.

Arshdeep Singh took KKR’s batting line-up by storm as he picked up three crucial wickets in his spell. Punjab’s Sam Curran had an expensive outing as he gave 38 runs in three overs.

KKR struggled with the bat as Mandeep Singh was dismissed early on in the match. Impact player Venkatesh Iyer played a crucial knock of 34 runs in 28 deliveries.

KKR’s key batsman Andre Russel took the crowd by storm with his power-packed knocks. He scored 35 runs in just 19 deliveries but was removed by Sam Curran.

An explosive half-century by Bhanuka Rajapaksa and his 86-run stand with skipper Shikhar Dhawan helped Punjab Kings reach a competitive total of 191/5 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Rajapaksa reached his maiden IPL fifty in just 30 balls, with five fours and two sixes. Skipper Dhawan’s stay at the crease was ended by Varun, who clean-bowled him for 40 off 29 balls, consisting of six fours.
