United States: Voting has begun in the closely contested 2026 US midterm elections, with polling stations opening across several states.
The elections will determine all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 Senate seats, as Democrats look to make significant gains in Congress.
Vermont, New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut and Kentucky were among the first states to begin voting, with polling hours varying across the country.
More than 57 million Americans have already cast their ballots through early voting, with heavy participation reported in battleground states including Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas.
Voters in 36 states are also choosing their governors, making these elections crucial for political control at both the national and state levels.
