United States: US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will discontinue its annual military assistance to Israel by the end of 2026, following an agreement reached with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu several months ago.
The announcement concerns the $4 billion that Washington provides to Israel every year in military aid.
During an interview with Fox News’ Fox and Friends on Tuesday, Trump said the decision had already been agreed upon by both sides.
Explaining the move, he said, “Now, as far as paying Israel, Bibi Netanyahu and I have made a deal that we give Israel $4 billion a year, and we made a deal months ago that we’re stopping.”
Trump further confirmed that the financial assistance would come to an end after December, while leaving the possibility of future support open if Israel requires it.
He stated, “We’ve already agreed that by the end of this year we won’t be paying Israel. Now we’ll help Israel if they need it.”
Trump also argued that Israel no longer requires the annual funding and claimed that some Democrats and left-wing politicians were using the US financial assistance to criticise Republicans.
