Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Trump said the conflict had to be undertaken and would continue. His remarks came a day after Republicans suffered major losses and Democrats gained control of Congress.
The war also contributed to rising gasoline prices, which emerged as a significant concern among voters and became one of the factors behind the Democrats’ gains.
Trump also addressed comments made by Vice President JD Vance on social media earlier Wednesday. Vance had pointed to the party’s electoral setbacks and stated, “the reason we lost is the war.” Trump said he was comfortable with Vance’s remarks.
The President also spoke about the difficulty Republican candidates faced in converting the enthusiasm at his campaign rallies into votes. He had previously said the support and affection shown by rally crowds did not translate into electoral backing for the candidates he supported.
