India created history at the Special Olympics World Games 2019 with a huge tally of 368 medals when the event ended on Abu Dhabi on Thursday. The final tally included 85 gold medals, 154 silver, and 129 bronze medals.
The medals were won across all sports including athletics, golf, volleyball, aquatics, cycling, judo, powerlifting, table tennis, roller skating, badminton, basketball traditional, handball traditional and football 7-side female.
Indian powerlifters took the most medals – 20 gold, 33 silver, and 43 bronze.
India has participated 9 times in the event which takes place every two years.
Here is a list of amazing young achievers who have won big at Special Olympics Winter Games
- Anu Chennekota from Andhra Pradesh – This 18-year-old won her maiden Special Olympics World Games gold medal in the 16-21 years’ division-3 category in table tennis. Sabita Yadav from Goa won a singles gold in the division-4 category and Reshma Shaikh clinched a silver.
- Santoshi Vijay Kauthankar from Goa managed to win four silver medals in the female category of Judo. Priya Prakash Gada from Maharashtra also won a silver in the 100 mt. roller skating event.

3. Manali Manoj Shelke, just 19, from Maharashtra won a gold in a combo of three in powerlifting and a bronze medal as well.

4. Muskaan won gold in deadlifting, a silver each in squat and bench press and a bronze medal.
5. 19-year-old Jitendra Pawal – He sidelined poverty to win Gold in the 200m race in his division.
