Lok Sabha Polls: Samajwadi Party Releases Election Manifesto; Caste Based Censes, MSP For Farmers Among Key Promises

Lucknow: With the Lok Sabha elections just around the corner, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav unveiled the party’s manifesto on Wednesday. Titled ‘Janta Ka Maang Patr, Humara Adhikar’, the 20-page manifesto outlines the party’s vision for the future. The document, was released at the SP headquarters in the presence of senior party leaders.

Key Highlights:

  • Addressing the press briefing Akhilesh Yadav said, “We have named our vision document as ‘Janta Ka Maang Patra – Humara Adhikar’. The main demands in this vision document are – the right to protect the constitution, the right to protect democracy, the right to freedom of media, and the right to social justice… the right to social justice is needed for the development of the country. Inclusive development isn’t possible without the caste census. Caste census is the axis of development of the country,” Yadav said.
  • The Samajwadi Party makes significant promises to support farmers and address their concerns. Notably, the party pledges to ensure Minimum Support Price (MSP) for milk and all agricultural products based on the M.S. Swaminathan formula.
  • Additionally, the manifesto outlines plans to establish a Farmers’ Commission, tasked with monitoring farmers’ debts and offering ongoing relief measures.
  • The party pledges a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 for women below the poverty line, along with commitments to revive the Old Pension Scheme for para-military personnel and others.
  • The manifesto promises a review of the GST regime, while special schemes are proposed for weavers to support their livelihoods.
  • On the issue of caste census, the party vows to conduct the census by 2025. Additionally, the manifesto outlines plans to fill all vacant posts of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and backward classes by the same year.
  • In its manifesto, the Samajwadi Party pledges to end the Agnipath scheme and instead introduce regular recruitment in the armed forces.
