The use of plastic in the world is constantly on the rise and the environmental hazards it creates is alarming and disturbing. Tonnes of plastic are thrown inside landfills and waterbodies every day due to which the pollution levels have grown drastically and it seems impossible to free the planet from this burden.
While this harms health and the environment, there is also a huge effect on the marine life. The Australian Scientific Institution recently rolled out a study, according to which even a small piece of plastic increases the changes of a sea turtle deaths and this poses a serious threat to the marine organisms.
Based on the research by CSIRO, nearly half of the sea turtles of the world apparently have plastic stored in their guts due to the alarming amounts of garbage being disposed of in the water bodies every year.
According to studies, young sea turtles are most prone to deaths as they drift with the ocean and sea currents and land up around the floating debris. Across the world, six species of sea turtles out of seven seem to be threatened.
