New Delhi: In politics timing can be pivotal, if the elections to Delhi assembly were held few months after BJP swept all 7 Lok Sabha seats in Delhi the Modi wave would have helped the party capture the Delhi assembly, however as Delhi votes today, BJP is facing a tough contest from Arvind Kejriwal’s AAM Aadmi party, with Congress competing with the independents to win a handful of seats.
The stakes are high and  the fortunes of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) left with 1.3 crore voters, who are eligible to use their voting right to elect a new government.
Voters in the national capital witnessed a fortnight long high octane campaigns with all the star campaigners wooing voters with promises of converting Delhi into a world class city, making it a corruption free Delhi.
But apart from all this there are few questions that remain unanswered. What makes Delhi so unpredictable?
With BJP and AAP riding high on the persona of their party’s leaders, i.e. charismatic Narendra Modi and Muffler Man Arvind Kejriwal, there is much at stake.
The results of Delhi polls would prove to be a turning point in Indian politics, as a win for AAP would not only stop the Vijay-rath of BJP but would also bolster the opposition to take on the Modi government.
Whereas, BJP’s win may mean a huge setback for the two-year-old AAP and its activists-turned-leaders in politics, which made its dream debut in 2013.
Trends of elections since December 2013 showcased the popularity of BJP’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who led the party to victory in all the elections under his leadership, by conquering states like Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Jharkhand respectively in assembly polls.
BJP also fared well in Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections under Modi.
Riding high on success, party leaders attributed the successful election results to Modi and his leadership skills as he single handedly generated a saffron wave with his matchless campaigning style.
During 2014 Lok Sabha elections Modi addressed more than 400 election rallies across the country. Â All the rallies were a hit for BJP as Modi connected to the voters with his magical words which resulted in ousting Congress from power.
But since 2013, the same Modi – who was seen as invincible — has been stone-walled until he faced the common man’s party chief, Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi, who is giving a neck to neck fight to the saffron army now.
For the first time in several months, Modi has seen empty chairs and a fragmented party cadre in his rallies.
Modi realized that he was up against odds and it remains to be seen if his barbs against Kejriwal will work in the national capital, the formula had  earlier worked well with brutal efficiency.
The charismatic Modi effect also failed to work for BJP’s chief ministerial candidate, Kiran Bedi.who was faced with dissent within the saffron fold with many local leaders dubbing her as arrogant.
