Florida: Two people, including the suspected shooter, were killed following an incident at a Citibank office complex in Brandon, Florida, near Tampa, on Wednesday, authorities said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to an “active threat” at the Citibank Center and began clearing the buildings. Sheriff Chad Chronister said authorities believed the incident was targeted and confirmed that the suspect was dead.
According to the reports, officers swarmed the sprawling campus on Wednesday afternoon, while video footage showed long lines of employees leaving the office buildings. It was not immediately clear whether anyone else had been injured.
CNN reported that the second person was also killed in the incident. People in the area said they received public safety alerts on their phones warning of an “active shooter” and instructing them to shelter in place.
In a statement to CNN, Citi said it was aware of an incident affecting its Tampa site and was coordinating with law enforcement.
The Citibank campus in Brandon consists of four three-storey office buildings that house thousands of the banking giant’s employees. Brandon is located about 13 miles east of downtown Tampa.
