New Delhi: Ahead of the Lok Sabha election US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti has appreciated India and said that the US should learn from New Delhi to improve its electoral practices and procedures. Speaking at a private function in Sonipat, Haryana on Tuesday, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti praised the Indian election system and noted that the US should pick up on the subtleties that are essential to enhancing electoral procedures.
Speaking during the function, Garcetti emphasized that around one billion Indians will be exercising their right to vote in the country’s next general elections, which are set for April 19 to June 1. Garcetti appreciated India and said that those who want to see, feel and work in the future should consider visiting India. He added that it has been his privilege every single day as the leader of the US mission.
The diplomat defended US remarks when questioned about the current controversy surrounding America’s meddling in India’s domestic affairs. She claimed that the US is a unique democracy where all branches of government, the news media, and civil society have free rein to express their opinions about other nations. In keeping with the open nature of the American political system, he continued, these viewpoints are regularly expressed in public. In keeping with this liberal mindset, the US is likewise prepared to accept criticism from foreign nations.
Garcetti also shared his accounts of the “magical moments” he had on his childhood trips to India. He declared that “India never left my soul” and that he had maintained a close emotional bond with the country for many years. He said that US President Joe Biden had informed him that Washington’s relations with New Delhi were “the most consequential” for determining the global order of the twenty-first century and that India “was the most important country in the world”.
