Nissan starts sailing India-Made Datson-GO+ in South Africa

Date:

Nissan India has commenced exporting the India-made Datsun GO+ sub-compact MPV to South Africa. “Sales of the Datsun GO+, produced at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Oragadam near Chennai, began on August 31, 2016, in South Africa,” Nissan India announced in a statement.

The company has had its ups and downs in India primarily after the Global NCAP results came to the fore, however, Nissan India is defined as ever to make its sign as an exporter in India.

Commenting on the growth, Nissan India Operations President Guillaume Sicard said: “Following on the success of the India-built Datsun GO’s launch into the small car segment in South Africa, the GO+ is another example of our Make in India models making a mark in overseas markets.” He further added: “Our exports continue to help Nissan build its presence in India and grow the local economy.”

The Renault-Nissan Corporation Chennai plant has exported over 6.2 lakh cars since it launched its operations in 2010. Currently, it exports vehicles to 106 nations round the globe. The designs made at the manufactory include Datsun GO, Datsun GO+, Datsun redi-GO and Nissan Sunny, among others.

The exportation of Datsun GO+ to South Africa implies the booming popularity of India-made Nissan outputs for export markets. The plant has the capacity to manufacture up to 480,000 units per year.

The Chennai factory will also be the production hub for Datsun’s next new car- the GO Cross compact SUV and it’ll be fabulous to see how the company works its strategy around this.

The plant has the capacity to produce up to 4.8 lakh units per year.
