High Court upholds death of 4 convicts in Nirbhaya case

NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Thursday upheld the death sentence of four convicts in the December 16, 2012 gang rape and murder of the 23-year-old paramedic. A division bench of Justice Reva Khetrapal and Justice Pratibha Rani delivered the verdict.

Reacting to the verdict, the father of the brave heart said, “I am really happy that the accused are punished by the law. There should be some law under which minors committing these kinds of acts could also be punished.”

The four sentenced to death are, Mukesh Singh, Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma, and Pawan Gupta. The fifth adult accused, Ram Singh died during trial. The sixth accused, a juvenile, was sent by the Juvenile Justice Board to a reform home for three years, the maximum term under the juvenile law.
