Italian speed skier sets new world record

Italian Simone Origone has broken his own world record in speed skiing on Monday reaching 252.4kmh on the slope at Chabrieres in the French Alps.

He bettered the previous mark of 251.4km/h he clocked in April 2006 at Les Arcs.

The 1,220 metres Chabrieres slope has a maximum gradient of 98percent, and an average of 52.5percent. The starting line is at 2,715m altitude and the finish at 2,220m.
