Dravid to join Team India as consultant in England

Date:

New Delhi: Batting legend and former India captain Rahul Dravid is set to join Team India in England as a consultant in a mentoring role ahead of the much-awaited five-Test series beginning July 9.

Dravid’s appointment came after team’s coach Duncan Fletcher floated the idea. “It was the coach who approached us on behalf of the team and said it would be good to have Rahul with his vast experience spend some time with the boys ahead of the series,” said BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel.

The board subsequently got in touch with Dravid, who didn’t take time to agree to the proposal. “We immediately requested Rahul and he readily agreed,” Patel said.

Dravid is expected to join the squad on Monday.

The former India captain performed a similar role for his IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals after retiring from all forms of cricket.

Another former India captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar, who is currently acting as BCCI president for IPL-related issues, had mooted the idea of Dravid taking over as Team India’s coach; however, Dravid said the job requires a lot of time and he would not be able to do that as yet.
