New Delhi: Just days after India cancelled the Foreign Secretary-level meeting with Pakistan, Islamabad’s High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, defended his meeting with Kashmiri separatist leaders saying that Kashmiris are legitimate stakeholders in finding a peaceful solution to the issue at the press conference.
The Pakistani envoy stressed that his country was in favour of peace in the region.
Excerpts from the Envoy’s conference:
- Pakistan stands seriously committed to improving ties with India.
- Cancellation of Foreign Secretary-level talks by India should not discourage the two countries to find a peaceful solution to all issues.
- We in Pakistan are very positive and will not allow distractions in normalising ties.
- Â Kashmiri’s are stakeholders in talking bilateral relations ahead. Objective of interaction with them was to engage all stakeholders.
