One jawan killed one injured in LoC firing

Date:

Jammu: An Indiam Army soldier was killed and another injured in an encounter with terrorists in Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday morning.

Reportedly, a group of 11 to 12 militants had infiltrated the area, out of which five  terrorists have been killed. However, three-four terrorists are still expected to be in hiding.

In the past few months there has been repeated ceasefire violations by the Pakistan along the Line of Control. So far, six guerrillas and three army soldiers have been killed in this operation.

Police said a large group of heavily armed guerrillas have infiltrated into the Indian side of the LoC in this area following which a massive operation was started against them by the security forces.

The encounter has taken place just after a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is “disappointed” with how Pakistan is taking forward the talks. “We are disappointed that Pakistan made a spectacle of these efforts and went ahead with talks with secessionist elements. Bilateral dialogue necessarily requires an environment free from terrorism and violence,” Modi had said.

Meanwhile, Modi has left for his five-day visit of Japan. He will first touchdown in Kyoto, the ‘smart city’ of Japan, and meet Prime Minister Shinzo Abe there.

Modi’s first bilateral visit outside the subcontinent as the prime minister is to strengthen bilateral ties, taking the strategic and global partnership to a higher level.
