PM to flag off Run for Unity

New Delhi: ‘Run for Unity’ will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary on Friday. 

The government offices, including North Block and South Block located in the Central Delhi will remain closed from Thursday 2 PM to Friday 9:30 AM in connection with the event.  Roads leading to Rajpath in Delhi will also remain closed for general traffic on Friday morning.

The buildings to be closed in the wake of the event at Vijay Chowk include South Block, North Block, Rail Bhawan, CSIR Building, Krishi Bhawan, Shastri Bhawan, National Archives, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, an official release said.

National Media Centre, Shram Shakti Bhawan, Hutment (MOD Office), Dalhousie Road & on Krishna Menon Marg, DRDO Bhawan, Vayu Bhawan, Sena Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan (MEA office) and National Museum will also be closed during the period.

Other offices to close include Archaeological Survey of India Office, Vigyan Bhawan, Vigyan Bhawan Annexe, CCA, Ministry of Agriculture, 16-A, Akbar Road, Raksha Bhawan, National Stadium, Hyderabad House and Coast Guard HQ, Baroda House and National Gallery of Modern Art.

The buildings to be closed from 2 PM hours on October 30 to 8 AM hours on October 31 include Transport Bhawan, RBI, Yojana Bhawan, Sardar Patel Bhawan, Nirvachan Sadan, Punjab National Bank Building, Patel Chowk, Akashwani Bhawan /AIR, Sansad Marg, Dak Bhawan ,Sanchar Bhawan, Jeevan Tara Building, Jeevan Deep Building, Jeevan Vihar Building and SBI Building.

The government offices located in Rashtrapati Bhawan and Parliament House would be closed from10 PM on October 30 to 9:30 AM on October 31, 2014, the official release said.

The “Run for Unity” will start from the crossing of Rajpath and Rafi Marg and terminate at Rajpath before ‘C’ Hexagon, India Gate, police said.

According to police, approximately 10,000 participants will take part in the event; they will arrive in buses and cars. Besides, the programme will be attended by Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly and government officers, among others.

“To facilitate smooth conduct of the function, Rajpath and Rafi Marg shall be closed for movement of traffic from 5 am to 9.30 am while Janpath and Man Singh Road shall be closed between 7 am to 9.30 am,” said Special Commissioner (Traffic) Muktesh Chander.

“Motorists are requested to avoid New Delhi area and follow the routes, as suggested by us, for uninterrupted movement. General public and motorists are advised to plan their journeys in view of the events and advance their journeys so that possible delays can be taken into account,” said Chander.

Motorists are advised to follow the directions of the traffic policemen, deployed for traffic arrangements, to avoid inconvenience, he said.

Motorists taking Vinay Marg, Shanti Path and going to New Delhi and beyond may take Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, RML Rotary, Baba Kharak Singh Marg or Park Street, Mandir Marg and proceed further to New Delhi and beyond.

Traffic diversions shall be suitably enforced on roads in the vicinity of Rajpath, police said.
