7 Armymen given life sentence

Date:

Srinagar: Seven Armymen including two officers were sentenced to life on Thursday for their involvement in the 2010 Machil fake encounter case.

The killing of three Kashmiri men, claimed to be infiltrators from Pakistan, on April 30, 2010 had triggered a massive two month-long agitation in the Valley.

The three men, later identified as Shahzad Ahmad Khan, Riyaz Ahmad Lone and Muhammad Shafi Lone, were all residents of Nadihal in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. They went missing on April 27, three days before the killing.

Their families had alleged that the Army had lured them by promising jobs and later killed them, claiming they were terrorists.

The Army had earlier suspended Major Upinder and removed Commanding Officer of 4 Rajput Regiment, D K Pathania, from duty in the fake encounter case.
