Ebola Yahoo’s most searched topic

Date:

Washington: Ebola has overshadowed all the celebrities and gadgets to scoop the most searched topic on Yahoo for the year 2014.

Yahoo revealed its Year in Review for 2014, where Ebola, the deadly disease, emerged as the most-searched item of the year. Minecraft, a popular video game whose developer was bought by Microsoft, ranked second.

Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lawrence, Kaley Cuoco, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Aniston too made it in the top list with Disney’s ‘Frozen’ ranked at No. 7 and Apple’s iPhone 6 at the No. 9 spot. The company said iPhone had been among the most-searched terms on Yahoo in four of the past five years.

Meanwhile, since November, Yahoo has displaced Google to become the default search engine for Firefox, and now owns around 13% of the desktop browser market according to Net Applications.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer said in a blog post at the time that “the partnership would help them to expand their reach in search and give an opportunity to work even more closely with Mozilla to find ways to innovate in search, communications and digital content.”

People also used Yahoo to keep well informed on the latest news and had searched for information on the death of Robin Williams, the 2014 elections, the leaked photos of popular celebrities, the loss of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Mo.
