Germany allies with India to fight climate change

New Delhi: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic visit to Germany in April, the German delegation in India has promised to assist India in its efforts to deal with the impending threat of climate change.

Germany has extended its support in cleaning up the Ganga, developing techniques of water conservation, waste management and coming up with techniques to develop smart cities which use renewable energy.

During his visit to Germany, a number of deals including renewable energy (solar and wind) are expected to be signed between the two countries.

After Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Uma Bharti met the German delegation to discuss projects where the two can help each other, the German Environment and Nature Conservation Minister Barbara Hendricks assured India of Germany’s help towards completion of these projects.

Germany has pledged 3 million euros for assistance in the rejuvination of the Ganga apart from forming two task forces to look into waste management and one for water conservation and management.

Hendricks said Germany was committed to help India in its efforts to move on the clean energy path and assist in various adaptation measures to tackle the threat of climate change.
